Programme overview

The Smart Children Club is our flagship mentorship and life coaching programme for children and adolescents aged 6 to 17 years. Operating in the heart of Nairobi's informal settlements since March 2019, the Club provides a safe, structured, and nurturing environment where children learn to understand themselves, build healthy peer relationships, and develop the values, knowledge, and skills they need to navigate childhood and adolescence responsibly.

The programme was founded in direct response to a December 2018 survey by Child Space Organization that documented a sharp rise in drug and substance abuse, premarital sexual activity, early marriages, and other harmful behaviours among children in our communities — challenges driven by a toxic combination of strained family relationships, economic pressure on parents, limited access to child-friendly spaces, and insufficient professional mentorship.

The Smart Children Club was our answer: a structured, community-embedded, child-centered intervention that brings together children, parents, teachers, and community stakeholders into one holistic support system.

Who we engage

The Smart Children Club recognizes that mentoring a child requires an ecosystem — not just the child themselves.

  • Children and adolescents aged 6–17, as active participants in structured mentorship journeys.
  • Parents and guardians, through regular engagement sessions on nurturing their children.
  • Teachers, through capacity-building that strengthens their ability to mentor and guide learners.
  • Community stakeholders, sensitized on the collective responsibility of protecting children.
